The slap pass can be a dangerous weapon when used correctly.
As overtime started between the Blackhawks and Stars Sunday night it seemed highly unlikely that a shootout would be needed. The teams traded opportunities before Duncan Keith passed to Patrick Sharp. Sharp finished with precision securing the extra point for the Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks tied the game up 4–4 with five minutes remaining in the third with a goal by Brad Richards. The first two minutes of overtime were lively with both teams having their chances. Blackhawks netminder Corey Crawford turned over the puck while trying to pass it up from the boards but scrambled back to the net in time to stop the Stars from taking advantage of the open net. He shook his head afterwards but lived to fight another day.
On Sharp’s goal the Hawks were in the zone when Keith found him in a good position. He scored at 2:17 in overtime.
Sharp was named the first star of the game with a goal and an assist on the night.
Thank god for Patrick Sharp and Duncan Keith. Great play to pull the win out. #Blackhawks
